Welcome to my Copus family website! I love finding new cousins & hope to hear from you.
About Copus Hill & the Reverend James Copus Family
Please sign in to see more.
ATTENTION! Due to people who don't have the courtesy to ask if they may copy your story, instead of writing their own and taking photos without asking, this website has made private and visitors will have to obtain a password from me. I regret doing this, but someone copied my entire website and posted it in the public trees on Ancestry.

As past visitors know, I have always helped and shared with anyone who asks. It is with great sadness that I am being forced to do this.

All photos have been removed and will be reloaded as time permits. NO PHOTOS ARE TO BE COPIED FROM THIS SITE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Some of these photos have been shared by other descendants. Please be courteous and respectful to those who have been kind enough to share their photos for viewing. Most of these photos are also still under copyright. It is illegal to use copyrighted photos without permission of the owner.

Reverend James COPUS came to Ohio from Greene County, Pennsylvania in 1809 with his wife, the former Amy CHURCH and their children. He was killed in the massacre at COPUS Hill.
James and Amy's son, Nelson COPUS was six years old when the tragic massacre took place but that day stuck in his mind forever and he passed it down to his children who passed it down to theirs.

Nelson's grandson, Ozro was my great grandfather. He married Olive Leona NEELY. Copus Road just outside of Lima, Allen County, Ohio is named after them. Their daughter, Cecil May married Earl J. CHENEY. Their youngest daughter is my mother.

Many details have been removed from this introductory story because of the unethical person who downloaded my entire Cheney website as a public story into his tree on Ancestry. For the rest of the details, ask me and I'll e-mail it to those who are trustworthy. It's a shame that some people won't do their own research or write their own stories but help themselves to the research and writings of others. It spoils it for the rest of us who do our own and share with each other.

If you have had the COPUS Hill story passed down through your family, then you are probably a descendant of Reverend James COPUS. I'm always glad to find new "cousins" and would like to hear from anyone who finds an ancestor on this website or who is a COPUS descendant. I would be happy to share and exchange info with you.

At the Ohio Genealogical Society's 2006 Conference, I was inducted into First Families of Ohio through Reverend James COPUS. If you are a direct descendant of an individual who lived in Ohio by 1820, you are eligible to join First Families. This is a great way to honor your ancestors!

Two new photo albums have been added. The first one contains reunion invitations and pictures. Be sure to check out the second new album, which contains pictures belonging to COPUS descendant, Paula Rosecrans. These pictures are unidentified pictures, believed to be of COPUS family members or relatives of the COPUS family. If you can identify any of them, please let me know so I can label them. More pictures, names, and dates will be added as I have time or new information is found.

Future websites are planned for my other main surnames and will be listed in the links below. Click the links below for my CARDER, CHENEY and NEELY websites. Other sites to be added are HALL, MASON, and MORRIS.

NO PICTURES ON THIS SITE MAY BE COPIED OR USED WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE OWNER. MATERIAL AND PHOTOS ON THIS WEBSITE ARE COPYRIGHTED AND PERMISSION MUST BE OBTAINED FOR USE. Names, dates, and places are public facts and may be copied. If there is a picture that you would like a copy of, please contact me. My sources are not listed on the website. Contact me for sources. This is to ensure the accuracy of the material presented here.

Please sign my guest book. You may leave comments or information about your COPUS ancestors in the guest book. Be sure to leave your e-mail address so that I may send you a reply and so that others from your line will be able to contact you. That way, I will have all of the COPUS descendants' e-mail addresses. Should you find someone from your direct line and wish to contact them and no e-mail address is posted for them, then you will be able to contact me and I will contact that person for you. Some of the e-mail addresses I have are not current. If you are not sure whether I have your current e-mail address, please e-mail me and send your current one. I would be happy to hear from you.

The purpose of this website is for COPUS descendants to have a place to find each other and share and exchange our COPUS family history. My guestbook may be used as a message board and place that you can leave information about your branch of the family and any questions you have about the family and connect with each other if you wish.

     Enjoy!
